Gray Cary: Maxtor Pays $1 Billion For Quantum's Disk Drive Group

Maxtor Corp. has bought Quantum HDD, the Hard Disk Drive Group of Quantum Corp., for $1 billion in stock. Maxtor, based in Milpitas, makes hard-disk drives for personal computers, high-end server and consumer electronics applications. Its network-attached storage business provides work group and enterprise-class network-attached server appliances. Maxtor's customers include Dell Computer Corp., Compaq Computer Corp. and International Business Machines Corp.
