Champions for children honored
On Oct. 16, Newman Aaronson Vanaman attorney Valerie Vanaman was honored as a champion for children's rights by Mental Health Advocacy Services (MHAS) at its annual celebration. Vanaman was recognized as a leader in special education advocacy and for her work helping families and individuals challenged with disabilities to secure their rights and to obtain needed services. Also honored was Neal Halfon, co-founder and director of the UCLA Center for Healthier Children, Families and Communities. Nearly 150 attendees honored Vanaman and Halfon in the downtown offices of Munger, Tolles & Olson LLP, including Los Angeles City Councilwoman Jan Perry and Director of the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health, Marvin Southard.
