Judicial Council wrestles with courts' extra funding requests

At its meeting Friday, the council heard from officials in courts in Kings and San Joaquin counties for extra funding. Three other courts submitted requests but weren't able to present their cases.

If Friday's Judicial Council meeting is any indication, the council won't stop wrestling with requests for money from underfunded courts anytime soon. Statewide, courts are dealing with deep budget cuts, a legislative mandate to spend down their reserves and the absence of a failed court case management system that would have replaced their older ones.
