Senior Circuit Judge Betty Binns Fletcher, a liberal lioness at the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, died Monday night at a Seattle hospital, the circuit confirmed. She was 89.

Senior Circuit Judge Betty Binns Fletcher, a liberal lioness at the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, died Monday night at a Seattle hospital, the circuit confirmed. She was 89.
Just a week ago, Fletcher heard oral argument in an appeal over California's pollution laws. She appeared in a San Francisco courtroom by teleconference from Seattle, looking frail and asking no questions.
