Lawsuit takes aim at state's limited regulation of fracking

Environmental groups filed a lawsuit Tuesday against the state, alleging it issues permits for oil and gas wells without adequate environmental review.

SAN FRANCISCO - Environmental groups filed a lawsuit Tuesday against the state, alleging it issues permits for oil and gas wells without adequate environmental review. While the lawsuit has a broad goal, taking aim at the state's overall process for green-lighting oil and gas well projects, a major target of the suit is hydraulic fracking, a controversial oil extraction method.
