United States M&A activity down, local firms rise in rankings

United States M&A activity rose 11.7 percent in the third quarter of 2012, but is down for the first three quarters of the year compared to the year-earlier period, according to a report released Monday.

The value of U.S. mergers and acquisitions rose 11.7 percent during the third quarter to total $206.7 billion, with Latham & Watkins LLP handling three of the 10 biggest U.S. deals of the quarter.
