George Calkins

JAMS neutral George Calkins sometimes brings a wave machine to mediation sessions to calm the parties down. But the former LAPD officer is not afraid to confront parties he thinks are being unreasonable.

SANTA MONICA - During an especially tense mediation session, JAMS neutral George D. Calkins II dusted off a technique he uses at home to pacify his four grandchildren - a noise machine that mimics the sounds of waves gently hitting the beach.


"I did bring it in once [to a mediation] and said, 'Everybody needs to chill,'" Calkins recalled.
