Green Buildings Face New Standards

The USGBC is pursuing a new category for building owners to demonstrate that their properties function more efficiently.

For the 1 billion square feet of real estate certified so far under the U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Standards, property owners and developers earned points for installing such features as energy-efficient heating and cooling systems, waterless urinals and bicycle racks to discourage commuting.
