99 Cent Store class action unlikely to proceed

A Los Angeles County Superior Court judge indicated Thursday he was likely to strike any monetary relief claims from a false advertising suit against 99 Cent Only Stores Inc. for selling items for more than 99 cents.

A class action filed against 99 Cent Only Stores Inc. alleging deceptive advertising will most likely be stripped of any damages, a Los Angeles County Superior Court judge indicated Thursday.

Plaintiffs alleged that customers were fraudulently lured into the stores by the name "99 Cent Only," only to later discover they were being charged higher prices for household staples like milk, eggs...
