The California Fair Pay Act becomes effective Jan. 1, 2016. The new law aims to help women achieve pay equity with men when performing the same or similar duties, allowing female workers to compare their work with that done by males at the same or comparable locations. The act, like the federal Equal Pay Act, allows employers to affirmatively show that pay differences result from seniority, quantity or quality differences in productivity, and other specific bona fide factors other than sex...
