Governor vetoes bill to fund judgeships

Gov. Jerry Brown vetoed a bill on Thursday that would have funded 12 new judgeships with $5 million, asking the Judicial Council to instead work to rebalance the distribution of judges and workload statewide.

Gov. Jerry Brown has vetoed a bill that would have appropriated $5 million to fund
a dozen trial court judgeships statewide for the first half of 2016.


Senate Bill 229 had been the first measure funding judicial positions to pass both
legislative houses since 2007.
