List of potential appointees to the Courts of Appeal pile up

A growing chorus of appellate justices hoping to hold off on new appointments could lead to longer than usual vacancies, or could put the courts at odds with Gov. Jerry Brown if he pushes forward with appointments.

Names of judicial candidates are piling up for several of the state's appellate courts, including for one unusually long vacancy in Sacramento. But not everyone is in a rush to fill the posts.


Presiding justices say that keeping the seats open saves their courts money, and some are making it known to the governor's office that they want to see those judgeships go unfilled.
