City of Los Angeles ordered to pay $22.4 million in wrongful death jury verdict

In what plaintiffs' attorneys claim might be the largest wrongful death award in Long Beach Superior Court history, a jury Monday awarded the family of a motorcyclist who fatally collided with a car at a San Pedro intersection $22.4 million.

LOS ANGELES - The family of a rocket scientist won a $22.4 million verdict Monday after jurors heard evidence the city of Los Angeles never acted on plans to fix a dangerous intersection in San Pedro where he was killed in a motorcycle accident.
