Commission disciplines El Dorado judge for abuse of contempt power

Judge James R. Wagoner overstepped his authority a year ago when he ordered his bailiffs to arrest a courthouse visitor and then held her in contempt.

LOS ANGELES - An El Dorado County judge with a reputation as stern but also down-home "fair and square" received a public admonishment Tuesday from the state Commission on Judicial Performance for instructing his bailiffs to arrest a courthouse visitor who refused to follow his instructions and then holding her in contempt.
