Employment lawyer to serve jail time

A Harvard-educated employment lawyer from Newport Beach was sentenced Friday to 270 days in jail for stealing $90,000 from two banks by kiting checks.

SANTA ANA -- A Harvard-educated employment lawyer from Newport Beach was sentenced Friday to 270 days in jail for stealing $90,000 from two banks by kiting checks. Herbert R. Schnapp, 65, pleaded guilty in late May to one count of grand theft and four bad-check counts, according to the Orange County district attorney's office. People v. Schnapp, 08HF1994 (Orange Super.
