Judge admonished for abuse of power

The state judicial watchdog panel has publicly admonished Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Joan Comparet-Cassani for abusing her position by refusing to let a criminal defendant represent himself.

The state judicial watchdog panel has publicly admonished Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Joan Comparet-Cassani for abusing her position by refusing to let a criminal defendant represent himself.


The Commission on Judicial Performance has twice before disciplined Comparet-Cassani privately, including once in 2000 for ordering a defendant shocked with an electric stun belt.
