Fired bond manager was courting rival

Star bond manager was in talks to join a competitor before he was fired, testimony reveals.

LOS ANGELES - Several months before Trust Co. of the West fired its star bond manager, Jeffrey E. Gundlach, he was in talks to join rival Western Asset Management Co., he testified on Monday.


Those discussions took place in February 2009, nearly a year before Gundlach and several others were fired from TCW on Dec. 4, 2009. They set up the competing bond investment firm, DoubleLine Capital, 10 days later...
