U.S. Judge Refuses to Enjoin Recall Election

LOS ANGELES - A Los Angeles federal judge Wednesday refused to halt the gubernatorial recall, clearing the path for an Oct. 7 election. In one of the last significant legal challenges to the recall, American Civil Liberties Union lawyers had asked for a preliminary injunction to hold up the election on the basis that some counties are using unreliable punch-card balloting.
