Unocal Must Defend Slave Suit Under State Law, Judge Rules

LOS ANGELES - In a case with far-reaching implications for international corporations, Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Victoria Chaney has ruled that California law can be used to try a lawsuit claiming Burmese villagers were used as slave laborers to build a natural-gas pipeline in Myanmar for the Unocal Corp.
