Assembly retreat sets up court funding showdown

On Thursday, the Assembly subcommittee abruptly reversed course and voted to give the judiciary an additional $160 million for the year, less than the $266 million it sought.

SACRAMENTO - Only two days ago, budget subcommittees in the Senate and Assembly supported giving the judicial branch roughly $266 million, additional money the courts say they'll need this year to avoid more cuts.
