Chinese Lawyers Association bestows annual legal honors
The Southern California Chinese Lawyers Association celebrated its 39th annual installation and awards banquet May 1. The event, held at the historic Golden Dragon in Los Angeles, drew about 700 guests including dozens of judges and local and federal elected officials. The celebration honors Asian-American lawyers and judges who have made extraordinary contributions to the legal field, SCCLA leaders said. This year the SCCLA gave the following honors: Judicial Service Award to the Associate Justice Goodwin Liu of the California Supreme Court; Impact Award to Lawrence P. Tu, senior executive vice president and chief legal officer for CBS Corp.; Public Service Award to John Chiang, state controller; and Lifetime Achievement Award to Debra Wong Yang, a partner with Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP. The SCCLA is among the nation's oldest Asian-American lawyers associations, providing mutual support for Chinese and Asian-American lawyers, judges and law students in Los Angeles and Orange counties since 1975. — Katie Lucia
