Longtime NBC attorney, legal trailblazer dies at 68
Friends remembered Los Angeles litigator Henry Shields Jr., Irell & Manella's first black partner, as a charismatic yet scrappy trial lawyer who went out of his way to be a mentor to younger attorneys.

Henry Shields Jr., a Los Angeles litigator who long served as NBC's right-hand man for trial matters, died Friday of cancer. He was 68.
The Chicago native is remembered as a trailblazer for black attorneys at major Los Angeles law firms, friends and colleagues said.
