Measure would have coroners list deceased's preferred gender

Lawmakers are considering a bill that would have death certificates reflect an individual's self-identified gender, part of a broader push for recognition of transgender identities.

Christopher Lee, born a woman, lived in the Bay Area as a man for much of his life. After his death in 2012, close friends Chino and Maya Scott-Chung took care of his affairs - including communicating Lee's gender identity to the coroner's office.
