LOS ANGELES - Longtime illegal immigrants suffered a loss Thursday when the U.S. Supreme Court upheld the deportation of a Mexican man who lived in the U.S. for more than 20 years.
In an 8-1 decision, the justices said Humberto Fernandez-Vargas could be deported because he failed to apply for legalization before a 1996 law took effect.
