Judge frees man he held on civil contempt for six years

Judge Andrew P. Banks stuck to his earlier assertions that Zulmai Nazarzai has not proven he's unable to comply with the order to turn over $360,540 that disappeared in 2010 during proceedings in a civil action brought by the state Attorney General's Office against his company, Statewide Financial Group, Inc., over a mortgage scheme.

A man jailed for six years on a civil contempt charge was released from jail Friday after an Orange County Superior Court judge ruled his continued confinement could be unconstitutionally punitive.
