Ending the Quake Deceit Debacle
Forum: By Brian S. Kabateck The current California Insurance Commission scandal, while disturbing, has produced legislation that will finally provide relief to the thousands of policyholders who have still not received proper compensation for damages incurred as a result of the 1994 Northridge earthquake. Passed overwhelmingly by the state Senate, SB1899 would amend the Civil Code and give policyholders whose Northridge earthquake claims were denied because of statute of limitations restrictions a one-year window to resubmit those claims to their insurance carriers.
