Daily Journal: How did you prepare and train to become a neutral?
Madigan: I entered the ADR profession in the early 1980s, long before most lawyers even knew what mediation was. I initially apprenticed with one of the godfathers of public policy mediation, Lawrence Susskind, based at Harvard and MIT. There I co-mediated several complex disputes involving city taxation and budget issues and a state public-private partnership program.
