LOS ANGELES - Two notable bench officers and pillars of the Los Angeles legal community plan to step down from the bench.
Judge Burt Pines, whose distinguished public-service career included two terms as Los Angeles city attorney and service as judicial appointments secretary for Gov. Gray Davis, will retire from the Superior Court at the end of the year.
