L.A. court's new buyouts worry staff

Uncertainty reigns supreme for Los Angeles County Superior Court staff who are unsure if the voluntary buyouts of commissioners and court reporters won't lead to mandatory layoffs before the end of the fiscal year.

LOS ANGELES - Fearing additional layoffs and litigation backlogs on the horizon, court staff expressed concern at Thursday's surprise announcement that Los Angeles County Superior Court wants 30 commissioners and 30 court reporters to vacate their jobs by Dec. 30.
