Law firm mergers more popular now than in 2010

The number of law firm mergers and acquisitions during the first three quarters of 2011 has spiked from last year's figures, according to data compiled by legal consultancy Altman Weil.

Law firm merger and acquisition activity in the first three quarters of 2011 increased 79 percent over numbers posted for the same period last year, according to a report released Monday.


Industry insiders said leaders at large law firms are looking to make alliances with smaller firms as a way of responding to the increasingly global demands of their clients.
