Gov. Jerry Brown signed legislation Monday reducing the number of lawyers elected to the board that governs the State Bar. The new law, SB 163, by Sen. Noreen Evans, D-Santa Rosa, also cuts member dues temporarily. Most lawyers will pay $400 this year, due to a one-time $10 reduction. Lawyers also will be able to shift $20 of their dues to support legal aid groups or to keep that money themselves.
