Marvell Technology hit with $1.17 billion patent infringement verdict

Lawyers for K&L Gates LLP scored a $1.17 billion win for Carnegie Mellon University, after a Pennsylvania jury upheld its claim Wednesday that Marvell Technology Group Ltd. infringed two of its clients' patents.

Lawyers for K&L Gates LLP scored a $1.17 billion win for Carnegie Mellon University, after a Pennsylvania jury upheld its claim Wednesday that Marvell Technology Group Ltd. infringed two of its clients' patents.


The award might encourage universities to be more bullish about asserting patents now that it's clear there is a lot of money to be made, some legal experts say.
