Justices Probe California's Peremptory-Challenge Rule

WASHINGTON - Hearing the case of a black defendant convicted of murder by an all-white jury, the Supreme Court justices indicated Tuesday that they are ready to strike down the tough hurdle California defense attorneys face in getting prosecutors to explain why they have used peremptory challenges to strike minorities from juries.
