Cytyc Buys Firm for $325 Million

Cytyc Corp. is expanding its women's health care product line by acquiring Palo Alto-based Novacept Inc. for $325 million. Cytyc, based in Boxborough, Mass., manufactures the ThinPrep system for cervical-cancer screening. Privately held Novacept makes the Novasure system for treating excessive menstrual bleeding.
