Sitting judges protected in pension reform bill

Sitting judges have been told they won't have to pay increased pension contributions in the state's pension overhaul bill, but an effort is still afoot to confirm that the bill's language provides such protection.

Members of the judiciary working to protect California judges' pensions believe the state's proposed pension reform legislation revealed Tuesday will protect current bench officers' pension plans. But as of Wednesday afternoon, judges were still trying to determine that its language ensures only judges who take office after year's end will have to make increased pension contributions.
