Short-Lived Judge Change Wins Cheers

Cheers turned to dismay for supporters of defendant Alex Sanchez, a nationally renowned anti-gang activist charged with racketeering, after the removal of U.S. District Judge Manuel L. Real was reversed.

LOS ANGELES Supporters of defendant Alex Sanchez, a nationally renowned anti-gang activist charged with racketeering, cheered last week's removal of the case from the purview of U.S. District Judge Manuel L. Real, who they accused of railroading Sanchez at a recent bail hearing.

But the cheers quickly turned to disappointment when the transfer was found to be a mistake.
