By Ronald McNees San Bernardino County was about to begin building a $600 million hospital in Colton when the Fish & Wildlife Service halted construction, claiming the property was habitat for the Delhi Sands flower-loving fly. Fish & Wildlife required 6 acres of the hospital grounds be set aside as fly habitat and the hospital to be moved 350 feet - all at a cost of more than $2.4 million, according to a story in a trade publication.
