Restoring substance

The William Binder-designed building at South Market and Post streets in San Jose sits within the boundaries of the old Pueblo de San Jose, atop the site of the Juana Pacheco adobe. The Hotel Metropole was its first and longest upstairs tenant. Long neglected, the circa 1903 Romanesque structure is about to be restored, a fitting memorial marker for the city's history.
