CalTech sues Apple and Broadcom for Wi-Fi patents

Apple Inc. and Broadcom Ltd. infringed wireless communication patents owned by the California Institute of Technology, according to a federal complaint filed Thursday.

Following a settlement with Dish Network LLC and Hughes Communications Inc. over alleged infringement of satellite internet products, the California Institute of Technology filed a near-identical suit against Apple Inc. and Broadcom Ltd., claiming chip technology used in iPhones, iPads and laptops infringes protected coding algorithms to the tune of "hundreds of billions of dollars."
