On May 5, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration released its long-awaited "deeming regulations," which in August will subject electronic cigarettes and other tobacco products such as cigars and pipe tobacco to the FDA's tobacco regulatory authority. The FDA has regulated tobacco products since 2009, but its authority was limited to cigarettes, cigarette tobacco and smokeless tobacco.
