Ulster Lawyer's Murder Has 'Chilling Effect' on Attorneys
Forum: Attorney Action By Elaine Michetti Rosemary Nelson, a 40-year-old lawyer, human-rights advocate and mother of three children, was killed last year in Northern Ireland by a bomb that had been planted under her car. Before her death, Nelson had been the subject of a campaign of intimidation, harassment and death threats by members of the police force (the Royal Ulster Constabulary) and outlawed loyalist paramilitary organizations. More than 14 months have passed, and the authorities have yet to conduct a full and independent inquiry.
