Chief Public Defender to Serve Sixth Term in Northern District
SAN FRANCISCO - Barry Portman has been reappointed to a sixth four-year term as federal public defender for the Northern District.
Portman, 68, has worked in the federal public defender's office since 1974 and became chief of the office in 1988.
He oversees 17 attorneys and 32 support staff working in San Francisco, Oakland and San Jose.
