Telecom Immunity Firing Up Congress’ Surveillance Debate

A bruising political battle is developing in Washington over whether Congress should grant legal immunity to the telecommunications companies that allegedly participated in the government’s secret surveillance program. The telecom companies are pushing for immunity as they attempt to fend off numerous lawsuits over their role in the government’s wiretapping program.
