Less than a year after Ray took the helm of Western Digital Corp.'s legal team, he found himself negotiating a deal to catapult the company into the position of the world's largest hard-drive maker.


Ray, 43, was intensely involved in the talks to acquire Hitachi Global Storage Technologies in a cash and stock deal valued at $4.3 billion. The March agreement is pending regulatory approvals.
