Nonprofit honors advocacy work for seniors

DLA Piper corporate law partner Gregory M. Gallo, who is based in East Palo Alto, received a Lifetime Achievement Award last month from Avenidas, a Bay Area nonprofit serving seniors in the region. The award honors residents in the community who have made "lasting professional and community commitments" to seniors in the area over the course of their lives. Award recipients, from left: Carolyn Tucher, founding board member of Community Legal Services in East Palo Alto; Jay Thorwaldson, retired editor of the Palo Alto Weekly newspaper; Madeleine Stein, a Stanford University volunteer; Isaac Stein, CEO of biopharmaceutical company Maxygen and a former Heller Ehrman LLP lawyer; Gallo of DLA Piper; and Jean Dawes, a board member of Pursuit of Excellence and Palo Alto Housing Corp.
