LA Center for Law and Justice hands out awards

Los Angeles Center for Law and Justice celebrated 41 years of assisting low-income families with legal matters at its annual gala at the Omni Hotel in downtown Los Angeles on June 5. The East L.A.-based organization also celebrated its 10-year-old youth-focused Teen/LA program and recognized Maria Shriver, the Los Angeles Dodgers and Manatt, Phelps & Phillips LLP for their commitment to low-income communities and access to justice. Addressing an audience of 300, Lee Tran & Liang LLP partner Damian J. Martinez said he was proud to be a part of the center. "I firmly believe that our legal system functions best when those who are most vulnerable have access to the courts," he said. Shriver was honored for her work with low income women; the Dodgers received the Corporation of the Year Award for promoting diversity; and Manatt was awarded Pro Bono Partner of the Year for its work with disadvantaged clients. — Chase Scheinbaum
