9th Circuit judge to California: make AG defend successful ballot initiatives

Senior Circuit Judge J. Clifford Wallace thinks California legislators should enact a law requiring the state's attorney general to stick up for ballot initiatives passed by voters.

A veteran judge at the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals has urged California lawmakers to force state executive branch officials to defend successful voter initiatives like Proposition 8. The lobbying from Senior Circuit Judge J. Clifford Wallace plays into a national debate launched amid the gay rights push for marriage equality, but could affect future, unrelated legal disputes as well.
