LA district attorney accepts award for community involvement
Los Angeles District Attorney Jackie Lacey received the GirlPower Community Impact Award for providing outstanding service to the city. The award was given to her from A Place Called Home, a nonprofit organization which provides a safe haven for youth in South Central L.A. The awards ceremony took place at the Beverly Hilton on May 22, 2014. Other award recipients were April Freitag, founder of Community Connect Effect; Marisela Nuno, an entrepreneur with commercial and residential real estate ventures; and actress Amber Riley of "Glee" and "Dancing with the Stars." "If you are in hot pursuit of a dream, learn to block out the noise and keep going," Lacey said as she addressed the youth. — Melanie Brisbon
