Sotomayor Shows Affinity for Oral Debate During First Case

Perhaps keen to show that she is, indeed, a "wise Latina," newly-ensconced Justice Sonia Sotomayor waited just 35 minutes Wednesday before asking her first question during her debut oral argument.

WASHINGTON - Perhaps keen to show that she is, indeed, a "wise Latina," newly-ensconced Justice Sonia Sotomayor waited only 35 minutes Wednesday before asking her first question from the bench.

Sotomayor followed up with several more questions, indicating that - unlike Justice Clarence Thomas, who rarely speaks from the bench - she will be a prominent player in future arguments.
