Wind farm to be built in East County

The 260-foot-tall turbines will be erected on 12,000 acres of ridgeline in McCain Valley, north of Boulevard.

After 12 years of planning, permitting and litigation, the Tule Wind Project will begin construction next month in San Diego's East County.

Avangrid Renewables will install 57 General Electric wind turbines, which at full capacity will generate about 132 megawatts -- or enough energy to power 40,000 homes per year in Southern California.
